ONIA

Documentation

Set up in five steps.

Nothing to host, nothing to install. Add the bot, open one panel, pick a tolerance level. The rest is optional.

1 — Installation

01

Add ONIA to the server

Authorise the bot from the invite link. It needs permission to delete messages, timeout members and manage invites in order to apply the sanctions you configure.

02

Open the panel

The command is restricted to the server owner. It opens the whole configuration on a single screen.

/config

03

Pick a level

Lenient, moderate or strict. Start with moderate: it is the setting that produces the fewest surprises in the first week.

04

Set a log channel

Without a log channel you will not see what the bot decides. This is the step servers regret skipping.

05

Check against a real message

Post an edge case in a test channel and read the reasoning in the logs. Adjust the level if the decision does not match your culture.

2 — Moderation levels

The engine is the same at every level. What changes is where the line sits — how much aggression, irony or vulgarity your server tolerates before ONIA acts.

Lenient

lenient

Only acts on the indisputable: explicit harassment, hateful content, phishing.

Friend servers · gaming communities

Moderate

moderate

The default setting. Punishes aggression aimed at a person, lets untargeted vulgarity through.

Most public servers

Strict

strict

Minimal tolerance. Expect a few debatable calls: keep the log channel open.

Professional servers · customer support · minors

3 — Warning tiers

Every decision produces a warning. You decide what happens at each count. A recommended starting point:

Count Action Expiry
1 Warning only 30 days
2 Timeout for 10 minutes 30 days
3 Timeout for 24 hours 60 days
4 Ban permanent

Warnings expire on their own. A member who behaves for a month goes back to a clean slate — that matters more than the punishment itself.

4 — Exemptions

Exempt roles

Members holding these roles are never analysed. Keep this for staff: an exempt role handed out too widely empties moderation of its meaning.

  • @Staff
  • @Moderator
  • @Verified bot

Exempt channels

Useful for staff channels, support tickets and the test channel where you deliberately trigger edge cases.

  • #staff
  • #tickets
  • #tests

5 — Troubleshooting

ONIA is not deleting anything

Check three things in this order: is the bot role above the members involved, is the channel exempt, is the level set to lenient.

The bot punishes harmless messages

Move from strict to moderate and read the reasoning in the logs. On premium, a custom prompt resolves nearly every server-culture case.

Premium options do not appear

Run /checkpremium. The subscription is attached to the server: if it was bought on another guild it will not apply here.

A warning was added by mistake

Use /removewarn with the number shown by /warnlist, or the tous option to clear all of the member’s active warnings.

The server stayed locked after a raid

Lockdown lifts on its own once traffic returns to normal. To take back control sooner: /antiraid unlock.

Still stuck?

The support server is where the maintainers actually read messages. Bring your server ID and what you expected to happen.
